TV Series
The Resume
(1973-1980)
CBS private eye series starring Buddy Ebsen as a retired/unretired private eye fighting crime with his widowed daughter-in-law
Also starred Lee Meriwether, and in the last couple of seasons, Mark Shere
Why Barnaby Jones might be annoying
Many of the episodes had cheesy macho titles like; 'See Some Evil, Do Some Evil,' 'Death Leap,' 'The Black Art of Dying,' and 'Deadline for Murder.'
Mark Shere was added the last couple of seasons for youth appeal.
Like many private eye shows it had a gimmick; namely Ebsen's age.
Why Barnaby Jones might not be annoying
It had several very good crossover episodes with fellow CBS private eye show 'Cannon.'
Not surprisingly, it had very good ratings among older viewers.
In TV's greatest blow ever struck for Gray Power, Barnaby Jones overpowered a much younger and murderous karate expert by sneaking up on him and hitting him over the head with a two by four.
It showed a senior citizen as being still productive and physically active without being ridiculous about it.
