It often casts Americans who come off as naïve and gullible.
Some of the age gaps of the couples featured are extremely wide.
It endorses the stereotype of the cougar woman.
Many of the foreigners are ignorant of American culture and its customs.
It relies too much on melodramatics.
It has been accused of endorsing marriage fraud, since many of the foreigners seem more interested in getting their K-1 visa permit then their partner.
Many of the people featured often ignore the concerns of their family members and friends when topics such as catfishing, cultural differences, marriage and emigration fraud are brought up.

It gives perspective on long distance relationships.
It does follow-ups on the couples featured on the show in previous seasons, most of whom are still together.
It gives an inside look on the customs and cultures of the foreign partners.
Many of the couples featured on the show are in genuine long-distance relationships.
The show's spinoffs have been equally succesful.
