    When he tried to claim wrongful dismissal after being fired from St. Mirren, the arbitration board ruled against him, and described him as 'particularly petty' and 'immature.'
    He was repeatedly fined for criticizing officials after matches.
    He upset Aberdeen players by describing their performance as 'disgraceful' after they had defeated Rangers 1-0 to win the Scottish Cup (1983).
    During a dressing room tirade, he kicked a soccer boot that hit David Beckham in the face, causing a minor injury (2003).
    Players nicknamed him 'Furious Fergie' for his behavior.

    He tied for top goal scorer in the Scottish League (1965-66).
