Why Saint John, New Brunswick might be annoying:

Except for being fully spelled out, it’s easy to confuse the name with St. John’s in Newfoundland.
It was a prime attack target between the Siege of St. John (1777) and the War of 1812.
The Irish potato famine of the late 1840s contributed to its single largest immigrant influx to that point (hence the origin of ‘Canada’s Irish City’).
As in Ireland itself, there were heavy clashes between the Catholics and Protestants prior to and during the famine.
It is home to the largest oil refinery in the nation.
The highest tides in the western world tend to occur here.

Why Saint John, New Brunswick might not be annoying:

It is named for St. John the Baptist (the same saint whose name is used for the provincial holiday in Quebec).
The first quarantine station in the whole of North America was established here by the city’s charter, to address sick and dying Irish immigrants.
The first Miss Canada winner (1923) was based here.
It is home to more than a dozen National Historic Sites and the oldest North American city market.
Walter Pidgeon and Donald Sutherland are natives of the area.
Thanks to its coastal position, the sea has singlehandedly shaped almost its entire economy and politics.
