Why The Mentalist might be annoying
CBS most likely picked up the series as a way to capitalize the success of its procedural dramas, most notably CSI franchise.
At this rate, CBS should stand for 'Crime Broadcasting Station.'
Prior to his detective work, Jane was a psychic medium (despite the fact he does not believe anyone has psychic powers).
Jane was also a con-man before working for CBI.
His specialties include cold reading, hypnotism, and pickpocketing, as well as powerful observational skill and a deep insight into the human psyche and behavior.
Some viewers noted that the show's premise strikingly mirrored that of the USA Network hit 'Psych.'
Why The Mentalist might not be annoying
Jane's unique abilities have helped the CBI solve crimes.
While it has been acknowledged that the concept is not a new one, the show has been praised for its 'thoughtful execution.'
The pilot episode received high ratings, and the series was the most watched new show in the 2008-2009 television season.
Simon Baker received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his role as Patrick Jane.
