    Recorded the albums 'Back Country Suite' (1957), 'Local Color' (1957), 'Young Man Mose' (1958), 'Ramblin' with Mose' (1958), 'Autumn Song' (1959), 'I Love the Life I Live' (1960), 'I Don't Worry About a Thing' (1962), 'Mose Allison Sings' (1963), 'The Word from Mose Allison' (1964), 'Mose Alive!' (1965), 'Down Home Piano' (1965), 'Hello There, Universe' (1969), 'Mose in Your Ear' (1972), 'Middle Class White Boy' (1982), 'My Backyard' (1989), Gimcracks and Gewgaws' (1997) and 'The Way of the World' (2010)
    His skipped his college graduation ceremony to play at a honky tonk.
    He noted about his eclectic style, 'There's a lot of places I don't work because they're confused about what I do.'
    Despite critical acclaim, his albums were never commercial successes.
    He explained a long absence from the studio by noting, 'I figured there's no need making a new CD. There are plenty of mine out there and none of them are selling.'
    He grew up in a home without electricity or indoor plumbing.
    His song 'Young Man Blues' became a staple of the Who's live show.
    The New Yorker wrote, 'Cynical, literary and witty, he was like Ambrose Bierce with a piano.' (Other literary-minded critics dubbed him the Mark Twain and William Faulkner of jazz.)
    He received a NEA Jazz Masters Award (2013).
