    He was legally blind (hence his nickname).
    Blues legend John Lee Hooker praised his harmonica playing.
    His song 'Going Up the Country' is considered the unofficial theme song of the Woodstock festival.
    He was very knowledgeable about blues music, botany and ecology.
    Stephen Stills dedicated his song 'Blues Man' to him.
    His death was overshadowed by the deaths of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.
