The Resume

    (March 13, 1946-July 4, 1976)
Born in New York City, New York
Commanded Sayeret Matkal (General Staff Special Reconnaissance Unit) during a counter-terrorism mission to rescue hostages from Entebbe Airport in Uganda
Only Israeli soldier killed in the operation
Older brother of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Why he might be annoying:

After he was shot in the elbow during the Six-Day War, he was able to return to active duty quickly because the doctor conducting his physical mistakenly examined his knee instead.
According to Muki Betser (who was second in command at Entebbe), Netanyahu’s decision to shoot the Ugandan sentries guarding the terminal (which was against the original plan) threw off the timing of the raid.
Although most accounts of the Entebbe raid report that he was killed by Ugandan soldiers firing from a control tower, his family insists he was shot by the commander of the hijackers.
Opponents have accused Benjamin Netanyahu of exploiting his brother’s memory for political gain.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made the dean’s list the one year he attended Harvard.
He was decorated for valor during the Six-Day War for rescuing a wounded soldier from behind enemy lines (1967).
He received the Medal of Distinguished Service during the Yom Kippur War (1973).
The Entebbe raid rescued 102 of the 106 hostages (three were killed in the crossfire between the Israelis and the hijackers; one who was hospitalized at the time of the raid was later murdered on Idi Amin’s orders).
The code name of the Entebbe raid was retroactively changed from Operation Thunderbolt to Operation Yonatan.
When his personal letters were published posthumously, novelist Herman Wouk described them as ‘a remarkable work of literature, possibly one of the great documents of our time.’
