Drummer in The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (1969), Atomic Rooster (1969-70), Emerson, Lake and Palmer (1970-79) and Asia (1981-91)

He had a steel drum kit made that weighed two and a half tons and required many of the arenas where ELP played to reinforce the stage.
He became a vegan.
He dropped out of an ELP reunion tour (2010), complaining ‘Unless it’s as good as it can be, then I can’t do it.’
He then formed ELP Legacy, with a guitarist replacing Emerson’s signature keyboard parts.

He was known for his speed and his ability to play in complex time signatures.
Emerson said, ‘Carl blows my head off some nights because he knows what I’m going to do four bars ahead.’
He was able to remove his T-shirt in concert while continuing to play.
He was smart enough to keep his shirt on when he aged.
He was named to Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame (1989).
