Why he might be annoying:

    He was institutionalized 20 times for craziness.
    He described his mental state as 'a magical orange grove in a nightmare.'
    As a high-school student, he would assign his friends reading lists for summer break.
    He protested the war effort during World War II.
    He went to jail for refusing to serve in the military.
    He chummed around with political big-shots like Jackie and Bobby Kennedy.
    He used his ex-wife's private letters in his poems, which pissed people off.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was aware of his mental problems, and used them to make good poetry.
    While institutionalized, he was given shock therapy, which can't be fun.
    Sylvia Plath was one of his students.
    He died of a heart attack while taking a taxi.
