Why he might be annoying:

When he left his position as assistant coach in Chicago to become head coach in Los Angeles, he was successfully sued by the Bears for breach of contract.
He was fined $5,000 for trading the same draft picks to two different teams (1974).
His daughter wrote a memoir outlining his obsession with football to the exclusion of everything else, including family.
He frequently ate ice cream or peanut butter as meals to minimize the time he spent eating and away from football.

Why he might not be annoying:

He never coached a team to a losing season.
He was the first head coach to hire a special teams coach.
He ran several miles to start each day and did not smoke or drink alcohol.
His death inspired a joke in the 'Seinfeld' episode 'The Pez Dispenser.'
After his last game he told reporters, 'I'd give a year off my life to win.'
