Why he might be annoying:

He once set out on a quest to meet with the philosophers of Persia (now modern Iran), but turned back after the emperor that he was accompanying was assassinated in Mesopotamia (now modern Iraq).
Much of his philosophy was taken directly from Plato.
He received permission from emperor Gallienus to set up a society identical to Plato's ideal state in 'The Republic,' but had the permission rescinded after Gallienus' councilor objected.
He died alone.

Why he might not be annoying:

He took in students from all philosophical schools and skillfully argued against all competing systems.
Although he borrowed a great deal from Plato, he still had a unique philosophical system and was able to criticize Plato when he believed Plato to be wrong.
His lectures are alleged to have caused men to free their slaves, give their possessions to the poor, and take up a life of philosophy.
