Why Baby Bob might be annoying
Talking baby shows had already flopped on NBC ('Happy,' 1960-61) and ABC ('Baby Talk,' 1991-92), but CBS decided the third time was the charm.
The character of Baby Bob had originated in a series of ads for freeinternet.com.
Bob's voice sounded like Chuckie from the 'Child Play' movies.
Bob showed an interest in breastfeeding that went far beyond hunger.
The lesson that a popular commercial won't necessarily translate into a popular TV show was lost on the producers of Cavemen.
Why Baby Bob might not be annoying
The producers assembled a talented cast of sitcom vets for the supporting roles.
In later episodes, Bob transferred his lecherous attentions from his mother to his babysitter, which at least was less Oedipal.
After the series was cancelled, Bob came back as a spokesman for Quiznos Subs.
