    He's a devout Catholic who vigorously defended a president strongly disliked by the Catholic church.
    He's known to give verbal tongue lashings to those who agitate him (reporters and fellow politicians alike).
    He has a propensity for sarcasm.
    He fellowed at the liberal think tank, Center for American Progress.
    Supposedly, he often weighed himself to make sure he didn't weigh more than 200 pounds.

    He's known for often expressing his gratitude, including writing thank-you notes.
