Why he might be annoying
He never played a game in the NHL.
His tenure in Washington was remembered for assembling teams that would have good regular season results and follow it up with poor playoff results.
He fired his head coach Bryan Murray and replaced him with his younger brother, Terry.
He was fired by the Capitals after they missed their first playoff appearance under his watch (1997).
His teams never made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals until 2017.
Why he might not be annoying
He is the son of former NHL general manager Norman 'Bud' Poile.
He made the blockbuster trade that brought Rod Langway to Washington, and essentially saved the Capitals franchise in the long term.
He was the first general manager in the history of the Nashville Predators franchise.

He was chosen to be the general manager for the United States men's Olympic hockey team in 2014, which he was forced to miss as a result of taking a puck to the face, which blinded him in the right eye.
He is the first general manager in the history of the NHL to preside over 1000 games and record 500 wins between two teams.
