He was the first player ever to be drafted out of Orange Lutheran High School.
He turned down a lucrative offer from the Yankees, who initially drafted him in 2008, to attend UCLA.
He was the first Pirate pitcher in over 100 years to win his first four career starts.
He is the second fastest pitcher in Major League Baseball history to record 300+ strikeouts in under 200 career innings pitched.
He is the brother-in-law of San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford.
