The Resume

    (circa 2285 BC-circa 2250 BC)
Resided in Mesopotamia (roughly equivalent to modern Iraq)
Daughter of King Sargon the Great who united northern and southern Mesopotamia
High priestess of moon God Nanna at Ur
Wrote three surviving hymns to Inanna, goddess of war and fertility

Why she might be annoying:

Her power came in part from being a powerful king's daughter.
Although she was priestess to the moon god, she was far more devoted to the goddess Inanna.
Her appointment as high priestess may not have been popular with the locals.
Her hymns often glorify Inanna’s bloody deeds in battle.
She was vain about her beauty.
She presumptuously called herself the moon god’s wife in human form.

Why she might not be annoying:

She is the earliest author in the world known by name.
She is also the first author known to write in the first person.
Her position as high priestess helped strengthen her father’s hold throughout Mesopotamia.
She was the first of a long line of Mesopotamian princess-priestesses.
Her verses about Inanna’s love life are lyrical and racy.
Local priests eventually overthrew and banished her.
Her hymns were translated in 1968 after being forgotten for several centuries.
