Why he might be annoying:

His skating skills were not the greatest.
He sported a scruffy unkempt appearance, which was unheard of for a hockey player.
He was forced to give up his rodeo career by Kings owner Jack Kent Cooke threatened to fine him $1000 for every rodeo he partook in.
He was a heavy drinker, which played a role in his early death.
He was waived by the Maple Leafs after he reverted to playing indifferently during his time with the team.
He retired after playing the first 20 games of the 1979-80 season, citing he had nothing left in the tank.
His long absences prompted his wife to hire a private investigator, who tracked him to the bar he frequented.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had one of the hardest slap shots during his career.
He partook in rodeo and farming.
He was a member of the inaugural Kings team.
He earned a Stanley Cup ring as a member of the Flyers (1974).
His personality made him a fan favorite in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
He underwent a liver transplant, months prior to his death.
