Why he might be annoying
Despite being hyped as being taken with the first overall pick throughout the course of the 2012-13 season, he fell down to fourth.
He initially snubbed an offer to play for Everett of the Western Hockey League, and only elected to play after his rights were traded to Portland.
Some hockey journalists felt there was more hype around him as a result of being an African-American being drafted with a high pick.
He was traded after two and a half seasons by the Predators, as he was unable to reach a contract extension with the team.
He was heavily recruited by Roc Nation (Jay-Z's sports agency), which some felt played a role in his fall to the fourth overall selection.
Why he might not be annoying
He took up hockey while living in Denver, and being encouraged by both his father and Joe Sakic.
He took figure skating lessons before playing competitive hockey, in order to get used to the pace of the game.
He is the first NHL player in professional sports history to come from NBA bloodlines.
He was a member of both the American World Junior team that won a Gold medal and the Portland team that was the Memorial Cup finalist in the same season (2013).
As a result of his background, he managed to get people in different demographics interested in hockey.
