The Resume

    (September 15, 1965-March 6, 1968)
    Aired on CBS
    Created by Irwin Allen
Guy Williams as Professor John Robinson
    June Lockhart as Maureen Robinson
Mark Goddard as Major Don West
    Marta Kristen as Judy Robinson
    Bill Mumy as Will Robinson
    Angela Cartwright as Penny Robinson
Jonathan Harris as Dr. Zachary Smith
Bob May (body) and Dick Tufeld (voice) as The Robot
Premise: A family is lost in the universe along with the spy who sent them off course.

Why Lost in Space might be annoying:

It was horrendously campy even for an Irwin Allen series.
The original title 'Space Family Robinson' was thought to be too similar to 'Swiss Family Robinson.'
The spaceship Jupiter II was originally named Gemini XII, which had to be changed to avoid confusion with a real NASA program.
The two most popular characters, Dr. Smith and The Robot, were not in the original pilot.
The episode 'The Great Vegetable Rebellion' was so ridiculous that Guy Williams and June Lockhart couldn't stop laughing throughout the shoot.
It was made very cheaply, reusing props from Irwin Allen's other shows as well as 'Batman.'
It was the only Irwin Allen series that didn't air on ABC.
The third season theme is far better remembered than the original simplistic theme.
Dr. Smith was always trying to get alone with Will for notoriously unexplained purposes.
It inspired a very disappointing film version.

Why Lost in Space might not be annoying:

It was a huge ratings winner, holding its own opposite 'Batman' in its last two seasons.
Many scientists, astrophysicists, and astronauts credit the show with inspiring them to take up the field.
It maintains a huge cult following today.
The first season was designed to be a serious show, until 'Star Trek' usurped that genre.
Dr. Smith's mostly unscripted insults to The Robot are fondly remembered and often quoted.
Four of the six surviving cast members made cameos in the film adaptation.
John Robinson was ranked #38 in TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time.
The Robot was ranked #14 in TV Guide's 25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends.
