The Resume

    (March 17, 1941-January 28, 2016)
    Born in San Francisco, California
Guitarist/vocalist in the Jefferson Airplane/Starship (1965-84) and KBC Band (1986)
With Grace Slick recorded the albums 'Sunfighter' (1971) and 'Baron von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun' (1973)
Recorded the solo album 'Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra' (1983)

Why he might be annoying:

He and Grace Slick considered naming their daughter god (with a lower-case g) before settling on China.
David Crosby's nickname for him was 'Baron von Tollbooth.'
After he quit the Jefferson Starship, he launched a protracted and often bitter lawsuit over ownership of the name.
The result was the band could not include 'Jefferson' in their name unless he was a member.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the only native San Franciscan among the Jefferson Airplane's principals.
The band's web page argues, 'If Marty Balin was the soul of the band, and Grace Slick its public persona, then Paul Kantner could be considered its brain.'
He is a science fiction fan, often incorporating sci-fi themes into his songs.
