Football Coach

The Resume

    (May 26, 1941-July 28, 2009)
    Born in Maywood, Illinois
Tight end for the Buffalo Bills (1963-64)
Head coach at Missouri Southern (1968-69)
Secondary coach and defensive coordinator at Drake University (1969-72), Indiana University (1973-76) and Notre Dame (1977-83)
Defensive coordinator for the Oklahoma Outlaws (1984), Jacksonville Bulls (1985), Indianapolis Colts (1996-97) and the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2008)
Secondary and defensive line coach for the St. Louis/Phoenix Cardinals (1986-93)
Linebackers coach for the Indianapolis Colts (1994-95) and the Seattle Seahawks (1998)

Why he might be annoying:

He only had one head coaching position in over 40 years of coaching football.
He turned down the Arizona Cardinals head coaching position, which wound up going to Dennis Green afterwards.
He was a nomad in the college coaching ranks.
His name sounded way too close to that of fellow coach Jimmy Johnson's.
He didn't have much success as a defensive coordinator, prior to his stint with the Eagles.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was considered the master of the blitz by football pundits.
He helped develop the likes of Aeneas Williams and Brian Dawkins into elite defensive backs.
His Eagles defensive units ranked among the top 10 in the NFL during his tenure as the team's defensive coordinator.
He was forced to step down from his position due to medical reasons, after it was revealed he was diagnosed with melanoma, prior to the start of the 2009 season.
He was respected enough as a coordinator, that Andy Reid gave him full control and authority over the Eagles defensive units, which he held up until his death.
He was posthumously inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame (2011).
