The Resume

    (April 10, 1926-November 13, 1983)
    Born in Cumming, Georgia
Birth name was Alvin Samples, Jr.
Cast member on Hee Haw (1969-83)

Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of school after sixth grade.
He weighed close to 400 pounds.
He frequently screwed up cue card readings.
He was buried in his trademark overalls.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a former carpenter and stock car driver.
He had never meant to be an entertainer, but at age 40 he was interviewed on radio about his claim that he had caught a record-setting bass. The tall tale he related drew such a response that the station played the interview multiple times, eventually prompting a record label to add a music background and release it as a novelty tune.
The alt-country band BR549 named themselves after the phone number from the 'Junior's Used Car Lot' sketch.
He said about his 'Hee Haw' popularity, 'I was just being myself. I wasn't trying to be no comedian. People like me and I just love telling them stories.'
