Trans World Airlines (TWA) turned down her application due to her race, and she filed a racial discrimination suit, but dropped the case when Mohawk hired her.
She resigned from Mohawk after only six months so she could marry a Trini cricket player.
She's divorced.

Why she might not be annoying:

Cornell University refused to accept her only because she was black.
She trained as a nurse.
She attended the March on Washington (1963).
She continued her activism, advocating reproductive rights for women.
