The Resume

    (August 15, 1935-March 1, 2021)
    Born in Atlanta, Georgia
President of the National Urban League (1972-81)
Member of the Board of numerous corporations including Xerox (1974- ), American Express (1977- ), JC Penney (1973-2003), Dow Jones (1982-2006) and Clear Channel (2000-03)
    Advisor to Bill Clinton

Why he might be annoying:

He helped Monica Lewinsky get a job with Revlon after she swore out a deposition denying having an affair with Bill Clinton.
He earlier got former associate attorney general Webster Hubbell a $60,000 retainer from Revlon at a time when Ken Starr was interviewing Hubbell about Whitewater.
He tried to bill the goverment $300,000 for providing legal services to Clinton during the Lewinsky and Paula Jones scandals. (He received only $1,215.)
He declined a chance to become Attorney General because he did not want his financial records open to scrutiny and being the first black was 'no reason for me to take the job.'
A woman who he helped get a job claimed, 'When you're a woman, an attractive woman, and Vernon Jordan does something for you, there is the expectation there will be extracurricular activities.'

Why he might not be annoying:

After successfully suing to integrate the University of Georgia, he personally escorted student Charlayne Hunter through a hostile crowd.
He was shot and seriously wounded by a sniper (May 29, 1980).
His would-be assassin was acquitted, then admitted to the shooting.
He received the Alexis de Tocqueville Award from the United Way for promoting volunteerism (1977).
His wife Ann said about rumors of his womanizing, 'I'm sure women find him attractive. I do.'
