Why he might be annoying
After missing a catch in centerfield, he threw down his glove in anger, failing to notice that the ball had not gone over the wall, allowing hitter Adam Jones to score on an inside the park home run (May 22, 2010).
He threw a ball into the stands, hitting a fan and drawing a seven-game supsension (August 25, 2010).
He plowed into St. Louis catcher Bryan Anderson even though there was no throw to the plate (August 28, 2010).
He complained to the press after his manager benched him for the next game as a punishment.
He plowed into Florida catcher Brett Hayes, causing a separated shoulder, and was called out in a situation where he would have almost certainly been safe sliding (August 31, 2010).
In a game against the Marlins, he charged the mound, triggering a bench-clearing brawl and earning an eight-game suspension (September 1, 2010).
He sometimes refers to himself by his 'gentleman's name' of Tony Plush. (Tony Plush? Gentleman's name? WTF?)
Why he might not be annoying
He also played hockey, making it to the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (1999).
Two weeks after his Major League debut, he made a game-saving catch against the Astros that drew comparisons to Willie Mays on SportsCenter (September 17, 2007).
He was the first Nationals player to steal three bases in a game (July 22, 2010).
Before he charged the mound, the Marlins pitchers had thrown at him during his two plate appearances.
He claimed, 'If I had played like that in the 80s, nobody would've said nothing. But we're in a new age of the game and I guess you're not supposed to play hard-nosed.'
