    His nickname was 'The Sheik.'
    He earned the nickname as a result of a clerical error with an Egyptian sheik named Mohammad Ahmed Sadek.
    He spent his entire career as a backup catcher.
    He played no more then 64 games in a season.
    He collected the trading cards of the pitchers who surrendered his home runs and flaunted them in his clubhouse locker.
    His colorful personality made him well-liked by his teammates.
    He spent his entire playing career with the Giants.
    Although he never was a starter, his defensive skills and leadership attributes were considered valuable.
    He served as Robert De Niro's body double for the baseball scenes in the 1996 thriller 'The Fan.'
