The Resume

    (May 18, 1895-February 21, 1934)
    Born in Niquinohomo, Nicaragua
Birth name was Augusto Nicolas Sandino
Led a revolt against Nicaraguan President Adolfo Diaz and US Marines occupying the country (1927-33)
Assassinated on the orders of National Guard leader and future president Anastasio Somoza Garcia

Why he might be annoying:

He fled to Mexico after assaulting the son of a prominent politician who had insulted his mother (1921-26).
He wildly exaggerated his successes, such as claiming to have killed 97 Marines in a clash in which only one actually died.
He tried (unsuccessfully) to solicit help from gangster Al Capone.
The eventual withdrawal of US troops had less to do with his attacks than the American desire to cut costs during the Great Depression.
What happened to his body after his assassination is a mystery.
He was idolized by Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and Hugo Chavez.

Why he might not be annoying:

He eluded repeated attempts by the US Marines to capture or kill him.
He was ambushed and assassinated while leaving peace talks with the government.
When the Somoza dictatorship banned his image, his followers adopted his silhouette as a symbol.
The Nicaraguan Congress voted unanimously to name him a national hero (2010).
