Why he might be annoying:

He gave in to family pressure and joined the Imperial Navy.
He was a self-critical perfectionist who revised his early works after publication.
Musical purists criticized the 'corrections' he made editing Modest Mussorgsky's posthumously published works.
He had a seven-year long writer's block in which composed no new works of his own (1881-88).
Despite being a prolific composer, his most recognized work is the brief opera excerpt 'The Flight of the Bumblebee.'

Why he might not be annoying:

'The Flight of the Bumblebee' was the theme for the radio program 'The Green Hornet.'
From 1893 to his death, he composed an opera every 18 months.
After he supported 100 students who had been expelled for participating in an anti-czarist protest (1905), he was suspended as professor and his works were banned.
He was reinstated after 300 additional students and several faculty members walked out in support.
His students included Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev.
He described his teaching technique as 'I will speak and you will listen. Then I will speak less and you will start to work. And finally, I will not speak at all and you will work.'
