Why he might be annoying:

    He left the Cubs midseason in order to take the Royals managerial job, hours after Bob Boone was fired.
    He was strongly despised by many Royals fans during his tenure with the club.
    Despite the Royals being ten games under .500 at the time of hiring, he guided the team to a 31-48 record down the stretch.
    His teams finished no higher then 4th place during his four full seasons at the helm.
    His managerial style was seen as being bland, conservative and predictable by baseball pundits,

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a successful manager in the minor league ranks, prior to becoming the Cubs hitting coach.
    He missed the majority of the 1986 season after being injured in a clubhouse explosion.
    Many of his supporters say his lack of success in Kansas City was a result of being forced to work with a poorly assembled roster.
    Upon being fired, he stated he did the best he could do with the roster he was given.
    Prior to his accident, he was considered the frontrunner to become George Bamberger's successor in Milwaukee.
