The Resume

    (1928-May 19, 2020)
    Born in United Kingdom
    Sound engineer and boom operator
Worked on 47 films, including ‘The Deadly Bees’ (1966), ‘Alfie’ (1966), ‘Star Wars’ (1977), ‘For Your Eyes Only’ (1981), ‘Octopussy’ (1983), ‘A View to a Kill’ (1985), ‘The Living Daylights’ (1987), and ‘Lost in Space’ (1998)
Garnered attention when a behind the scenes photo from ‘Star Wars’ showing him operating the boom mic while wearing only pink shorts and work boots was posted on Reddit (2015)

Why he might be annoying:

He went uncredited in many of the films he worked on, including ‘Star Wars.’
Like a lot of the crew members, he thought ‘Star Wars’ would be a flop.
When ‘Star Wars’ won the Oscar for Best Sound, he was not included in the award citation.
He became better known as ‘pink shorts boom guy’ than by his name.
Cosplayers at ‘Star Wars’ conventions dressed like him – including some who really should have been wearing more than just shorts.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had a good explanation for his wardrobe choice: ‘It was very, very hot.’
He was included when the crew from ‘Star Wars’ were invited to Buckingham Palace (July, 1979).
He was bemused but appreciative of the attention the ‘pink shorts’ photo drew. (‘They seem to like it. Good for them.’)
Lego created a minifigure of him.
