    Hockey announcer for the Toronto Maple Leafs (1927-63)

Why he might be annoying:

    He needed to use a telephone in order to broadcast his first hockey game.
    He retired from every day play-by-play calling in 1955, but went on to take charge of the Maple Leaf post-game interviews for another 8 years.
    He would start most of his games by saying: 'Hello Canada and hockey fans in the United States.'
    He would slick his hair back.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He announced the first televised hockey game to be broadcasted throughout Canada.
    He was considered the voice of hockey for 56 years.
    His phrase of 'He shoots, he scores' is often imitated by the sportscasters he influenced.
    He was replaced by his son, Bill, in 1955.
    He's the namesake for hockey's Hall of Fame Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, which is awarded to other broadcasters.
