Why she might be annoying:

She dropped out of high school to become a singer.
Although she did not know Spanish, she performed rhumbas at the Del Rio nightclub, learning the songs phonetically: 'Later I found out I was singing dirty lyrics.'
She married Rudy Vallee, who was 22 years her senior, and divorced him after less than a year.
In 'Against All Odds,' a remake of 'Out of the Past,' she was cast as the mother of the character she had played in 1947.

Why she might not be annoying:

At 15, she was afflicted with Bell's palsy, which paralyzed the left side of her face.
She said the facial exercises she performed to overcome the paralysis taught her how to convey emotion in her acting.
During WWII, she entertained the troops with Vallee's Coast Guard Band.
Her marriage to Vallee broke up partly because of constant harassment from Howard Hughes, who was obsessed with her.
During filming of 'Run in the Sun' in Acapulco, she contracted a tropical virus, which eventually required her to undergo open-heart surgery.
