    Selected with the 35th pick in the 1961 Major League Baseball Expansion Draft
    #32 retired by the Astros franchise
    Career statistics: 88 career games played, 9–5 win–loss record, 133 strikeouts and three saves, 3.06 earned run average

Why he might be annoying:

    Some baseball pundits felt he should not have had his number retired.
    He struggled with control issues in the earlier stages of his career.
    Despite being on the Pirates depth chart during the playoffs, he was left off the roster for the 1960 World Series.
    He was demoted to the minor leagues, despite being one of the National League's best relief pitchers in the 1962 season.
    Some journalists consider him to be the poster child for athlets who have retired numbers, but are unknown to casual sports fans.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in the United States Army for two years, prior to starting his career in the majors.
    He was a member of the inaugural Colt .45's roster (1962).
    He was forced to retire early, as a result of skin cancer.
    He was described as being one of the most humble men to be around by teammates and doctors alike, when he got word of his diagnosis.
    Following his death, his family decided to spread his ashes on the consturction site of the Astrodome.
