    Born in Cynoscephalae (Thebes), Greece
    Famous for his lyric poetry including victory odes, hymns, songs of thanksgiving, preludes and laments

Why he might be annoying:

    He called his teacher Corinna a sow when she beat him in a poetry contest.
    Ezra Pound dismissed him as ‘the prize wind-bag of all ages.’
    He sided with Persia during the Greco-Persian wars.
