Starred in the series 'Sez Les' (1969-76), 'Dawson's Weekly' (1975), 'Dawson and Friends' (1977) and 'The Dawson Watch' (1979-80)
Hosted the game show 'Blankety Blank' (1984-90)

Why he might be annoying:

He planned to be a journalist but was fired from a newspaper after only two weeks.
He could make grotesque faces by pulling his jaw over his upper lip as a result of breaking his jaw in a boxing match.
He created his misanthropic persona when he got drunk before a nightclub appearance and, unable to remember his routine, started insulting the club and the audience. (He said he woke up the next day with a hangover and an act.)
He said, 'What amazes me is that so many people think show business is glamorous and exciting. Believe me, it's about as glamorous as changing sheets in a bed-wetting clinic.'
Ironically, he suffered a fatal heart attack while visiting his doctor for a check up.

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his big break winning the talent show 'Opportunity Knocks.' (1967)
A reporter from 'The Sun' looking to interview him after a show eventually found him backstage entertaining the cleaning ladies.
He was one of the few celebs to appear on 'This Is Your Life' twice. (1971,1992)
He was credited by 'The Sun' with the best mother-in-law joke of all time: The wife's mother said, 'When you're dead, I'll dance on your grave.' I said, 'Good -- I'm being buried at sea.'
