William Carlos Williams saw her walking around in a storm chanting 'beautiful rain.'
She broke off her engagement to Ezra Pound because her father did not approve.
She published a volume of Marianne Moore's poems without her permission.

Her early poems such as 'Oread' were praised for their vivid, direct language.
Pound used her work as a basis for his imagist manifesto which helped shape modern poetry.
The daughter she had with her husband Richard Aldington died at birth.
She acted in the experimental film 'Borderline' with Paul Robeson in 1930.
She lived through the blitz in London during World War Two.
She was the first female writer to receive the American Academy of Arts and Letters medal (1960).
Interest in her work was revived by feminist scholars in the 1970's.
