    It has been struck by three fire disasters (1891, 1900 and 1903).
    It took 8 years after a failed attempt to finally have a water system (1902).

    It has hosted the annual Tulip Festival every April since 1984.
    Its Lincoln Theatre in the downtown area is one of over 95 in the U.S. to still keep its original Wurlitzer theatre organ.
    It is the birthplace of actor Jim Caviezel, The Manhattan Transfer's Cheryl Bentyne, Mark Hendrickson of MLB/NBA fame and St. Louis Blues forward T. J. Oshie.
