Why Annapolis, Maryland might be annoying:

Much of its initial wealth was derived from the slave trade.
The slave ancestors of 'Roots' author Alex Haley were brought to the US through Annapolis.
A plaque to honor Haley was stolen after 48 hours and never recovered (1981).
It has been eclipsed commercially by Baltimore since the late 18th century.
A larger portion of its residents live in public housing than in any other American city its size.

Why Annapolis, Maryland might not be annoying:

The state house here has been in use since 1779, making it the longest-used one in the US.
It served as capital of the United States (November 26, 1783-June 3, 1784).
It claims to have more 18th century buildings than any other US city.
It is home to the US Naval Academy.
