The Resume

    (October 26, 1685-July 23, 1757)
Birth name was Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti
    Known for his keyboard music
Wrote over 500 keyboard sonatas (‘Essercizi’)
    Son of Alessandro Scarlatti

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a child prodigy.
He belonged to a secret society.
George Frideric Handel beat him in an organ-playing contest.
Although he was a music teacher for children, none of his own children became good musicians.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father exploited his musical talents.
When he said he wanted to make his own living, his father stopped speaking to him.
Although Handel beat him in the organ-playing contest, Scarlatti tied him in a harpsichord-playing one.
When his cat walked over the keys of his harpsichord, he turned it into a musical piece, ‘The Cat’s Fugue.’
    He influenced Chopin and Brahms.
His keyboard works are still popular.
Today he is more famous than his father (the best revenge).
