Why he might be annoying:

He was cocky and argumentative.
He couldn't hold his liquor.
He was always getting drunk and embarrassing his employer, Lord Byron.
He once got blitzed and challenged Percy Bysshe Shelley to a duel.
He stole Byron's idea for a vampire story.
He tried to join a monastery, but the monks rejected him.

Why he might not be annoying:

He received his medical degree at nineteen.
Lord Byron treated him like garbage.
The poet's literary friends ridiculed him behind his back.
He suffered from depression.
Although he probably committed suicide (by drinking acid, ouch), the official coroner's report says he died from a 'visitation of God.'
His short story 'The Vampyre' was the first-ever vampire story written in English.
His idea of an aristocratic, sensuous vampire would be imitated by Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, and many others.
'The Vampyre' was a huge success (even if it was only because people assumed the real author was Lord Byron).
