Why he might be annoying:

    He dated Carol Alt, who was 13 years his senior.
    He was lazy and had a massive ego, which caused major strifes between him and the Senators front office.
    He was involved in three contract holdouts with the Senators, the last one forced the team to strip him of the captaincy and turn it over to Daniel Alfredsson as a result.
    He originally made a $1 million donation to the National Arts Centre, only to cancel it altogether, when the venue's board refused to meet his concessions.
    He refused to attend the Senators final team meeting after they were eliminated from the 2001 Stanley Cup Playoffs, which sealed his exit altogether.
    His offensive production with the Islanders gradually declined every year during his tenure with the team.
    His play deteriorated to the point where the Islanders opted to buy out the remaining three years of his contract just to get rid of him altogether.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the first ever draft pick in the history of the modern Senators franchise.
    His flashy offensive style, allowed him to surpass Alexandre Daigle as the face of the Senators franchise.
    He was considered one of the few bright spots on the Senators during the franchise's lean years.
    He scored a crucial overtime goal, which secured the Senators first playoff series victory in an upset over the New Jersey Devils (1998).
    He served as the Senators team captain, giving him the distinction of being the first Russian born captain in the history of the franchise.
    He played in the NHL All-Star Game three times (1994, 1999, 2002).
    He was a member of the Unified Team that captured the Gold medal in men's Olympic hockey (1992).
