Why he might be annoying:

    His minor league pitching record was 29 wins and 40 losses.
    He was described by his peers as having a hypercompetitive nature.
    His Padres teams were described as being good, but not good enough to win a pennant.
    He fired his team's pitching coach, Charles Nagy when the latter refused to instruct his pitchers to throw retaliatory pitches (2013).
    He didn't enjoy his tenure with the Diamondbacks, and would later admit to taking the job as a way to stay relevant in baseball.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He accepted the Padres job at the age of 34, making him one of the youngest general managers at the time of his hire.
    He had a knack for acquiring pitchers in free agency, who would wind up reaching their true potential on his teams.
    He acquired the likes of Greg Vaughn and Kevin Brown, which benefitted the team as they made the franchise's second World Series appearance (1998).
    He was considered the greatest general manager in the history of the Padres franchise, as he was able to assemble a competitive team on a limited budget.
    He was posthumously inducted into the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame.
