Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of the University of Michigan to sign with the Tigers.
He was famously tight-lipped, with Mickey Cochrane quipping, ‘Charlie says ‘Hello; on opening day, ‘Goodbye’ on closing day, and in between hits .350.’
His mother lived with him until he was 45.
He did not get married until after his mother died.
He served as the Tigers general manager (1951-53) and called the experience ‘a nightmare’: ‘We had a lousy ball club, and I'd been away from baseball at that time for ten years. I didn't know who was and who wasn't.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was left-handed.
He was nicknamed ‘the Mechanical Man’ for his consistency.
He played every inning of the first six All-Star Games.
He joined the US Navy after the 1942 season.
After World War II, he started a business selling fabric to automobile manufacturers.
He explained that his mom lived with him because she was diabetic and she ‘needed someone to look after her.’
He also explained his reluctance to marry by noting, ‘I couldn’t see bringing a wife into that kind of situation.’
