Hockey Coach

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He, along with Mike Danton and two other players were part of the 'Brampton Boys' stable, led by David Frost.
His junior career, influenced by Frost was viewed as being controversial.
He refused to shake the hand of OHL commissioner David Branch, after Barrie captured the league championship (2000).
He made the statement 'this must burn your ass' to Branch, during the presentation of the J. Ross Robertson Cup (OHL championship).
He served as the captain of the 2000 Barrie Colts, regarded as being one of the most dysfunctional teams in the history of the Canadian Hockey League to participate in the Memorial Cup tournament.
Despite being the team captain, he, along with Danton and the team's coach, Bill Stewart infamously walked out of the arena without doing any post-game interviews following Barrie's loss in the Memorial Cup championship game.
He was suspended by the Lightning without pay, after he refused to accept an assignment to their minor league club (2001).
His professional career never lived up to its potential.
It was rumoured he was blacklisted as a player, due to his associations with both David Frost and Mike Danton, in wake of Danton's 2004 murder-for-hire plot.

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned OHL Rookie of the Year honors (1999).
He showed genuine remorse for his behavior as a player during his time in the OHL.
He cut all ties with Frost and Danton, which helped him rehabilitate his image in hockey circles.
Despite his disdain for OHL commissioner David Branch as a player, he was able to make amends with the latter as a coach.
He gradually worked his way up the coaching ladder, starting in the Junior A ranks, then working his way up to the OHL and AHL, before landing the Maple Leafs head coaching job.
Despite skepticism, he proved to be a capable replacement after the firing of Mike Babcock.
He guided the Maple Leafs to a North Division title in his first full season as head coach (2021).
