Why she might be annoying:

    She was nicknamed 'Alf.'
She left school at sixteen: 'I used to flunk everything and had a problem with concentration.'
She was a one-hit wonder in the US, where 'Invisible' was her only Top 40 single.
She admitted, 'I have lost and put back on big batches of weight in my life, many, many times.'
After inadvertently insulting Elvis Costello backstage at a concert, she developed agoraphobia and avoided going out for a decade.
She also would hide in a cupboard if strangers knocked on her front door.

Why she might not be annoying:

A critic wrote that her vocals were 'as throaty as Janis Joplin and as soulful as Dusty Springfield.'
She said, 'I've enjoyed the career lulls as much as I've enjoyed the highs. You reconnect with your family and friends, you live a normal life, it grounds you.'
She said about one delayed record, 'I appear to have forfeited my recording deal because I won't do reality TV. No-one needs to make an album that badly.'
She got over her agoraphobia by attending football (soccer) matches, and enjoying being in a crowd where she was not the focus of attention.
She noted, 'I'm in my 50s and still singing for a living. And that's fucking amazing.'
