Linkous committed suicide at age 47

Why they might be annoying:

The 'band' was pretty much Linkous and whoever he invited into the studio or on tour.
While working as a roadie for Cracker, he got the group banned from a Hoboken club by dumping chests of ice onto the audience.
While touring, Linkous' heart stopped after he overdosed on a combination of anti-depressants, Valium, alcohol and heroin (1996).
Linkous described his approach to one album as 'I've been trying to write really simple songs to make them sound like they're coming out of a satellite that's crashing into a gas giant or something.'

They opened for R.E.M. and Radiohead.
They collaborated with Tom Waits and P.J. Harvey.
The New York Times wrote, 'Sparklehorse finds an odd beauty as things fall apart.'
