    She almost died from a heroin overdose (1968).
    Her first marriage was annulled and her second ended in divorce.

    A botched tonsillectomy caused her the inability of vibrato.
    In 1941, she was named 'New Star of the Year' by Down Beat Magazine.
    She spoke openly of her struggles with alcohol and drugs.
    She continued to perform just months prior to her death.
