He was a heavy smoker, which contributed to his death from lung cancer.
He draws constant comparisons to Syd Barrett, mostly because they both went nuts from their drug use.
He was institutionalized after running amok in a recording studio with a fire axe. This incident put an end to his membership in Moby Grape.
His solo album 'Oar' was a commercial flop upon release.
He was a drug-abusing San Francisco hippie who played psychedelic rock.
He was homeless and an alcoholic in the years before his death.

He was Jefferson Airplane's original drummer, despite having no drumming experience before joining the group.
