Outlaw
    (November 23, 1859-July 14, 1881)
    Birth name was Henry McCarty
    Cattle Rustler/outlaw
Nobody is exactly sure where Henry McCarty was born, possible places include New York City, Indiana, and Missouri.
He and another youth, George 'Sombrero Jack' Shaffer, stole some clothes from a Chinese laundry, mostly as a prank, and were arrested.
Some of his first killings include an unknown gunman in Coffeyville, even before he and his family left that town a few years later in 1882. He shot and killed three Apache braves near the Chiracachua Reservation, killed a blacksmith in Fort Bowie, three cardsharps in Mexico, and two more Indians in the Guadalupe Mountains, but most of these were in self defense.
He stood about five-feet-ten-inches tall, had a receding chin, an overbite that made him appear to have exaggerated buck teeth.
He had narrow squinting eyes of icy blue that were piercing to look into.
He killed 6 deputies in Lincoln county in the late 1870s. He did this to get revenge for the murder of John Tunstall who had employed Billy as a ranch-hand.
Many false stories have been added to the legend of 'Billy The Kid,' some include that he killed 21 men by the age of 21 and another says he fled into Mexico and lived there until he died an old man.
He was killed in Fort Sumner, New Mexico by Patrick Floyd Garrett, a lawman.
Billy's tombstone has been stolen many times from his grave site, and is now covered by an iron cage to keep it from being taken once more.
There is only one known photograph of Billy The Kid (and we got it!).
He was not a cold blooded killer as he is often stereotyped.
Billy was educated and wrote many letters to the then Governor of New Mexico, Lew Wallace (author of Ben Hur) asking him to keep his promise of a pardon.
